Interesting comments. I grew Garden Gems last year and saved the seeds. Germinated great this year at also 95%. Got several nice Maglia Rosa types and several more rounded types. Both are delicious but skin is a little tuff. Plants were not great producers however summer was extremely hot and dry. Will regrow next year from this years seeds and see what I get.

Old garden geek here. Last summer a former colleague gave me a few of his Hybrid R tomatoes from the FL breeding program. He told about getting the seeds for a donation, so I donated to get this cherry-type tomato. Along with them came the Garden Gem seeds, so I started them as well. I have recently gotten my first ripe Garden Gem tomatoes, a total of five tomatoes from two plants which are at locations 15 miles apart. Fruit size from the two sites are quite similar. My five fruits weighed a total of 6.375 ounces!That is about an ounce and a third per tomato. This tomato is too small for slicing for sandwiches and far too small for canning. I do not plan to grow this variety next year.

In reply to Paul. We've had a great year with Garden Gem this year. They are pretty tasty, reliably unblemished, and keep on producing. We like it a lot this year. And, oh yeah, you've got to grow Maglia Rosa! We need to give Black Krim another try. Although the tomato was delicious, the plant did not perform well for us. But every year is different!

I have about 100 Garden gems out on my deck right now, and have been able to pull about 2-3 a day for the last week or so. At one point I had 130-ish green tomatoes on just 5 plants and I didn’t think they were ever going to ripen. These are quite small, but they’re pretty good. They’re great chopped into large chunks and put with some cottage cheese with pepper on it. They seem to be made for just that purpose. Very good match. I’m hoping to get enough to make a bulk of salsa but they’re coming too slow, which isn’t necc bad, as I have fresh GOOD tomatoes every day, but I would love some salsa.
Next year I’ll try the Maglia Rosa, and I want some Black Krim too. Regretting not planting a few Krim. I like those a lot.
